‘Attack on Titan’ season 4 episode 3 spoilers, official preview
Some viewers may have noticed that when Reiner described the “devils” of Paradis in episode 2, his choice of words somewhat humanized them to the Braun family. Reiner’s backstory, which will be the focus of “Attack on Titan” season 4 episode 3, will further explain his internal conflict. For the first time, anime fans will finally learn how Reiner was as a child and a Marleyan warrior candidate.
Reiner’s mother instilled in him the ambition of becoming Honorary Marleyans as she believeed it would allow them to reunite with his Marleyan father. A scene in the “Attack on Titan” season 4 episode 3 preview confirms the anime adaptation will include the moment Reiner finds his father. But their meeting was far from what his mother had described as Reiner’s father rejected him with utter disgust.

His father’s rejection and his mother’s persistent illusion of a happy family would later motivate Reiner to make the Paradis operation be a success. However, the events after they were dropped off in Paradis immediately went awry. Not even Marcel’s sudden death deterred Reiner.
“Attack on Titan” season 4 episode 3 is likely to narrate the crucial moments that led to Reiner’s conflicted personality and frequent mental distress while posing as a loyal member of the Survey Corps. That may include meeting a man who lost his entire family from the fall of Wall Maria and what led to Marco’s demise, whose manner of death was primarily decided by Reiner.
