Apple is expected to unveil its lineup of new smartwatches next week, and a new report has emerged with details on the Apple Watch Pro design. It is claimed to borrow one design feature from the iPhone 13 Pro and make the rumored flat display redesign become a reality.

The tech giant has been rumored to be working on an all-new Apple Watch model for more than a year now. It has been often described as being designed mainly for extreme sports athletes. It is then expected to be the first rugged Apple Watch to enter the market. More recent reports suggested that it could be a high-end product, which led to speculations that it could be named Apple Watch Pro.

A report from Macotakara, citing “reliable sources in China,” claimed the Apple Watch Pro will have a “flat display.” It can be recalled that various well-known sources reported ahead of the Apple Watch Series 7 launch that it would have a new design, including a flat display and boxy edges to match the latest iPhones’ appearance. That did not pan out, and Apple even emphasized during the product’s launch that its corners were made curvier.

Based on that experience, Apple fans should take this new report with caution. But it is worth noting that other reports have also mentioned the Apple Watch Pro will introduce a significant design change. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in a previous edition of Power On that the high-end watch will mark a major redesign in the Apple Watch line in years. But this could also be referring to the expected rugged design of the device.

Meanwhile, Macotakara also mentioned that the Apple Watch Pro would sport a “metal casing” similar to iPhone 13 Pro. The publication could be referring to the 2021 smartphone’s stainless steel finish, which is an interesting detail since previous reports claimed the Apple Watch Pro would be made of a more durable version of titanium. The same report said the high-end watch could be available only in 47mm size.

Last week, Apple announced its upcoming “Far out” event happening on Sept. 7. While the company did not provide many details about the imminent announcements, it is expected to unveil the iPhone 14 series, Apple Watch Series 8, new Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Pro next week.
