Amazon introduces a generative AI feature to distill product reviews into concise summaries, offering customers a faster way to gauge others' opinions. This new AI tool, currently available to select U.S. mobile users, identifies key themes from reviews, streamlining decision-making for online shoppers.
According to Vaughn Schermerhorn, Amazon's director of community shopping, this AI-generated review feature is now accessible to a subset of mobile shoppers in the United States. The company plans to expand its availability to a wider customer base, covering a diverse selection of products, in the upcoming months based on valuable customer feedback.
As competition in generative AI intensifies among technology companies, Amazon has been actively seeking ways to employ artificial intelligence within its range of offerings. Unlike its rivals, the e-commerce giant has not developed high-profile AI chatbots or imaging tools. Instead, Amazon focuses on equipping developers with the necessary tools and services to create their generative AI solutions using the robust cloud infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy expressed his strong belief in the profound impact of generative AI and its potential to revolutionize the company. In his recent letter to shareholders, Jassy emphasized that every facet of Amazon's diverse portfolio currently boasts multiple initiatives exploring the capabilities of generative AI, including developing products like the highly-popular voice assistant Alexa.
In addition to the aforementioned AI-generated review feature, Amazon also announced the introduction of a product insights capability. This additional feature allows customers to uncover common patterns and themes in the reviews, further facilitating informed decision-making.
With Amazon's cutting-edge generative AI technology, customers can now delve into product reviews and glean valuable insights efficiently and seamlessly. As this innovative solution gains traction, it is poised to transform customers' purchase decisions, making online shopping more convenient and satisfying.
