“Altered Carbon” season 2 is already in the early stage of production and this just guaranteed the return of the cyber-punk thriller. Although the series is delayed, its viewers are just grateful that finally, it is close to coming back on Netflix. Here are the details you need to know before the streaming site releases the drama.
“Altered Carbon” season 2 was renewed in July 2018 but it was reported that filming will only begin in February of this year. With this schedule, we could be looking forward to a 2020 airdate.
It should also be noted that “Altered Carbon” season 2 is a large-scale production so the shoot could last a long time. In fact, the first season’s lead star, Joel Kinnaman, once mentioned that this sci-fi show has a bigger budget compared to the first three seasons of “Game of Thrones” so just imagine how their sets, costumes and everything else are prepared – they sure takes time and this affects the filming schedule too.
Moreover, it seems that fans will not see Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi Kovacs in “Altered Carbon” season 2 anymore. It was revealed that he will be replaced by a new lead and this is one of the major changes in the second installment. As to who will take his role, Captain America’s Anthony Mackie had been tapped to be the new protagonist.
The change in the lead is not a problem at all since the concept of “Altered Carbon” season 2 is still the cutting-edge premise that an individual’s thoughts and consciousness could be installed in another body called sleeve, in order to keep on living. This means that people cannot die since they can always transfer to another sleeve and continue to live.
Thus, “Altered Carbon” season 2 can simply show that Takeshi Kovac’s time in Joel Kinnaman’s sleeve has ended so he needs to assume another identity through a new sleeve.
Meanwhile, “Altered Carbon” season 2 is based on Richard Morgan’s novel series of the same title. It was suggested that the second installment is based on book two titled “Broken Angels.” If the plot will follow the story in this book, then the new season will take place 30 years after the events in season 1 and Takeshi will be working on a different planet.
