Avid fans of the James Cameron-produced cyberpunk film “Alita: Battle Angel” will have something to look forward to later this month. The movie starring Rosa Salazar for the titular role will return to the big screen starting on Halloween weekend.
Where to watch ‘Alita: Battle Angel’
“Alita: Battle Angel” probably has one of the most dedicated fanbases right now. Even the re-release of the 2019 film in theaters later this month is a testament to their unwavering support for the live-action movie adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s 1990s manga series.
The group of fans, who call themselves the Alita Army, welcomed the month of October with an online campaign for the re-release of “Alita: Battle Angel.” The movie theater chain Cinemark responded a few days later, announcing it heard the fans’ requests, and it will be bringing back the film to the big screen.
“Alita: Battle Angel” producers Cameron and Jon Landau also celebrated the successful re-release campaign initiated by fans and shared the film’s back-in-theaters poster on their social media pages. Tickets are now available and the screening of the movie will only run for a limited time starting Friday, Oct. 30, so fans are advised to check Cinemark’s website to see what locations will carry the re-release.

First movie’s return to theaters gives hope for ‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’
The goal of Alita Army’s campaign is easy to determine: it is to keep the discussions about “Alita: Battle Angel 2” alive to open the possibilities for a sequel. It is also worth noting that this is not the only major campaign the group has launched to demand a sequel.

Previous efforts included having an “Alita: Battle Angel” sequel banner fly over the 92nd Academy Awards red carpet last February as well as putting up billboards. Both were paid for by the fans in hopes that it would convince Disney to green-light a second film.
With a limited screening period and the fact that COVID-19 is still a cause for concern in the U.S., not much should be expected from the return of “Alita: Battle Angel” in theaters when it comes to ticket sales. However, if the goal is to garner new fans, the re-release is still a good way to do it, especially since the first movie did not do so well in the domestic box office in 2019.
Only time will tell if this would ultimately convince Disney to include “Alita: Battle Angel 2” in its upcoming movie plans. But with dedicated fans like the Alita Army, the making of the sequel cannot be ruled just yet.
