Movie enthusiasts are hoping that there will still be “Alita: Battle Angel 2” despite the fact that it has low turnout in the U.S. block office market. It earned more overseas with its reported $404 million ticket sales while it only recorded about $85.7 million in the U.S. as per Box Office Mojo.
“Alita: Battle Angel 2” is not yet confirmed, but it has good chances of going into production since James Cameron, and director Robert Rodriguez clearly stated that they have plans for it. They even have enough materials for a trilogy, so if they can get things in order, they could begin working on the second movie sequel.
"There's like one whole document about the trilogy because that's just part of his process,” Rodriguez told Digital Spy. “Here are three movies. Just so you know what to include in the first story and whatnot.”
But of course, they also need to get a “go” signal from 20th Century Fox and Disney. In turn, the production company appears to be trying to determine whether to make “Alita: Battle Angel 2” or not. It seems that they are releasing the digital and Blu-ray versions of the movie to see if this will sell well. Perhaps, they have this idea of, if the outcome is good, then the movie is pushing through.
20th Century Fox already announced the release of “Alita: Battle Angel” in DVD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and digital via Amazon. As per Game Spot, the digital release has been set for July 9 while physical copies will come later on July 23.
There will be special inclusions in the packages like extra clips that show how the characters were created and other behind-the-scenes production details. Meanwhile, stay tuned for updates on “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
