The AMD Zen 2 is expected to come out mid-2019 and specifications of the hardware is slowly making its way on the web as we inch towards that timeline. To prepare for the launch date, the multinational semiconductor company has reportedly sent their next-gen processors to motherboard manufacturers to test the product. And some of them may have been wagging their tongue a little too loosely, WCCFTECH reported.
Right now, the AMD Zen 2 that was sent is apparently on the four to eight core category, although the manufacturers are expecting 12 and 16 cores to be sent as well. The new processors are supposedly performing at a steady rate of 4.5 GHz and are clocking a 15 percent increased efficiency compared to its predecessor.
What’s more, the AMD Zen 2 is also consuming less power and having an impressive lower temperature despite the boost in performance. The result is in line with the previous CES 2019 result where Cinebench recorded the processor at a 12 percent performance boost and 30 percent power efficiency. Although the numbers aren’t exactly similar, this is to be expected as final clock speeds have yet to be established.
However, the figures do fall on the 10-15 percent territory that has been expected of the AMD Zen 2. The overall results are coming in that a boost in IPC should satisfy end users, with the memory controller also seeing improvements as well, although the increase isn’t as innovative compared to the aforementioned performance boost.
Regarding other rumors, the AMD Zen 2 will apparently have more than 8-core/16-thread into its lineup as has been hinted by AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su. But as has been mentioned, the higher-tiers has yet to make their way into the hands of motherboard manufacturers, so that’s something to be excited about in the weeks to come. As for its exact date of release, it looks like the market is expecting this next-gen processor to hit the shelves this coming July. Price for the lowest tiers is rumored to cost $110, while the higher tiers have apparently been tagged with $560.
