Poland holds first public consultation on cryptocurrency and blockchain

The Polish Bitcoin Association, MP Mirosław Suchoń and the government's "From Paper to Digital Polish" program organized the country’s first public consultation on digital currency and blockchain technology, as reported by CoinDesk.

According to the website, “The Stream of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency will help in the development of e-government, digital currency markets, and the increasing cybersecurity country.”

Its objectives include “development of applications and markets digital currency, implementation of technology scattered records in administration and dissemination of applications in business” (loosely translated).


According to CoinDesk, the event was held by the Sejm – the lower chamber of the Polish Parliament – and saw over 70 people, including academics, public officials, industry representatives, legal experts, among others. The National Centre for Research and Development announced during the meeting that it received a grant proposal to co-fund Polish blockchain technology accelerator.

The scope of work of the consultation includes creating conditions for Polish innovative projects development that uses blockchain technology; development of educational program tailored to the needs of administration, security authorities and the public; the creation and development of blockchain accelerator projects, among others.

The event follows Poland’s Ministry of Development Affairs’ announcement on the expansive plan to explore blockchain technology in government digitization effort.
