“Venom 2” will be pitting Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his iconic symbiote against one of the most blood-thirsty villains of the franchise. The antagonist in question is none other than Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) himself, otherwise known as the blood-red Carnage.
Not a lot of details are known about “Venom 2” as Sony is keeping a tight lid on its plot and other details. However, hints have been offered by those involved in its production including producer Amy Pascal, Fandango reported.
When asked about the possibility of “Venom 2” featuring Peter Parker (Tom Holland), Pascal said that similar to everyone else, they are hoping for that possibility. However, it appears that the sequel will not be featuring Spiderman since Pascal specifically said “you never know someday,” implying that future films might add the web-slinger but not on the second entry.
Marvel Studio’s president Kevin Feige is also optimistic about the partnership but did admit that it’s up to Sony what they’re planning about “Venom 2” and the future of the franchise. All these positivities stem from the fact that despite the first film getting hit by bad reviews, it still managed to bag $855 million, domestically and internationally, Box Office Mojo reported. With a budget of only $100, greenlighting the second film is a no-brainer for everyone.
“Venom 2” is expected to reach, or even surpass the aforementioned figure, especially with Carnage adding more excitement to the film. And with Harrelson portraying the blood-thirsty symbiote, everything looks bright from where everything currently stands.
With regards to how Sony will portray Carnage in “Venom 2”, it appears that the plan is to provide some background about Cletus and Carnage to entice audiences to sympathize with both characters. Producer Avi Arad said that they aren’t interested in making the film rated R as they’re going to be exploring the motivation that drives Cletus and Carnage forward.
As for the release date of “Venom 2,” nothing substantial has surfaced so far. It was, initially, assumed that it would come out in October 2020 since Sony has an unconfirmed sequel slated during that time. However, that schedule has now been cleared muddying the details when fans can expect the sequel to come out, Express reported.
