Unitree Robotics shares skyrocketed in their Shanghai stock market debut on Wednesday, highlighting surging investor interest in China’s robotics and artificial intelligence sectors.
The Chinese humanoid robot maker saw its stock climb to an intraday high of 1,100 yuan, more than 600% above its initial public offering price of 150.80 yuan. The shares later trimmed some of those gains before the midday trading break but remained sharply higher.
Unitree’s blockbuster IPO performance stood in stark contrast to weakness across the broader Chinese stock market. The Shanghai Composite and CSI 300 indexes both dropped more than 2% during the session.
Investors had closely anticipated the Unitree Robotics IPO after the company gained international attention for its sophisticated humanoid and quadruped robots. Videos demonstrating the machines’ acrobatic movements and advanced mobility have helped establish Unitree as one of the most recognizable names in China’s rapidly expanding robotics industry.
The company is also backed by prominent Chinese technology players, including Alibaba, Tencent and artificial intelligence company DeepSeek.
Ahead of its Shanghai listing, Unitree unveiled a new humanoid robot dubbed “Superman.” The company said the robot can jump two meters from a standing position and run at speeds exceeding human capabilities, showcasing the technological advances driving enthusiasm around China’s humanoid robotics market.
Unitree follows memory chipmaker CXMT as another major technology company to make a high-profile Shanghai market debut, underscoring China’s push to strengthen domestic leadership in strategic technologies such as AI, semiconductors and robotics.
However, Unitree’s expansion prospects face geopolitical challenges. U.S.-China tensions surrounding artificial intelligence and advanced robotics have intensified, with Washington banning imports of foreign-made humanoid and quadruped robots in July.
The restrictions could limit Unitree’s access to the lucrative U.S. market. Even so, the company’s technology has attracted significant attention as it competes with major American robotics developers, including Boston Dynamics and Tesla, in the increasingly competitive global humanoid robot industry.
