U.K. retail sales growth to slide in October

The September survey reported a massive boost in U.K. sales which was corroborated by the official data which saw sales surge by 5.9% yoy from 3.2%.

It is believed that mom September sales were boosted by the Rugby World Cup and the inclusion of two of the three days of the August bank holiday weekend in the September survey period; yoy sales were further boosted by the comparison with a year earlier when sales fell by 0.9% mom, says Societe Generale.

The October survey should see a return to normality and so a big fall in the balance of reported sales from the September reading of 49.
