Turkish sectoral confidence indices fall in April

Turkey’s seasonally adjusted services confidence index dropped in April. The index fell 2 percent to 97.1 from March’s 99.1, showed the Turkish Statistical Institute. This fall in the services sentiment index stemmed from the decreased number of managers evaluating “business situation” as improved and “demand-turnover” as increased in the past three months and expecting a rise in “demand-turnover” in the next three months.

Within services sector; business situation, demand-turnover and demand-turnover expectation indices dropped 1.7 percent, 1.9 percent and 2.4 percent respectively on a sequentially basis.

Meanwhile, retail trade sentiment index dropped 2.3 percent in the month to 100.3 This drop in the sentiment index is due to the fall in number of managers evaluating improved “business activity-sales” in the past three months and expecting an improvement in “business activity-sales” over the next three months. The figure of managers evaluating “current volume of stock” as below normal for the season increased.

Within retail trade sector, business activity-sales and business activity-sales expectation indices dropped 4.2 percent and 4.9 percent respectively on a sequential basis.

The seasonally adjusted construction confidence index dropped 0.1 percent to 78.8 in April. Within the construction sector, total employment expectation index fell 1.9 percent sequentially while the current overall order books index rose 2.3 percent.
