Turkish economic sentiment index falls in January

Turkey’s economic sentiment index dropped in January from December.  According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, the economic confidence index fell 3.9 percent, as compared to the earlier month. The index dropped from 89.2 in December 2016 to 85.7 in January 2017. The drop in economic confidence index was driven by falls in real sector, services, retail trade confidence and construction indices.

Services confidence index fell 6.2 percent from 93.3 in December to 87.5 in January. Real sector confidence index and construction confidence index dropped 3 percent and 1.7 percent to 100.5 and 74.8 respectively. Retail trade confidence index fell 0.2 percent from 96.1 in December to 95.9 in January. On the other hand, consumer confidence index rose 5.6 percent from 63.4 in December to 66.9 in January.
