‘The Flash’ Season 3 Releases Official Title, Grant Gustin Confirms Flashpoint Storyline

Grant Gustin stars as Barry Allen on 'The CW' television series 'The Flash'

‘The Flash’ season 3 is scheduled to premiere on October and was confirmed to be entitled “Flashpoint”, after DC comic books’ limited series of the same name. Grant Gustin, who plays the lead role as Barry Allen, confirmed the “Flashpoint” storyline on Twitter.

According to Comicbook.com, Gustin took to Twitter to announce that the incoming season premiere’s official title will be “Flashpoint” after getting the permission from producer Greg Berlanti. The title pays tribute to the series of the same name from the original DC comic books.

The “Flashpoint” storyline introduces a parallel universe where events and characters are altered. It was written by DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff John and drawn by Andy Kubert, and was released in May 2011.

The original comic book series details an alternate DC universe wherein only Barry Allen is aware of the significant changes around him. He initially blames his enemy Reverse-Flash for creating the different timeline.

He learns that The Flash and the Justice League no longer exist. He also finds out that heroes have turned to villains and vice-versa. Citizen Cold becomes a hero in Central City, Aquaman and Wonder Woman turn evil, Superman has been held captive by the government, Cyborg is the world’s greatest superhero, and Thomas Wayne replaces Bruce’s identity as Batman.

‘The Flash’ season 2 finale found Barry traveling back in time to save his mother Nora from being killed by Reverse-Flash unaware that doing so would alter future events dramatically.

It remains unclear how much of the original comic book series will be adapted on the small screen. It is also unclear how much of this new storyline will affect other series in the “Arrowverse” - specifically ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Arrow’, and ‘Supergirl’.

According to Den of Geek, Tom Cavanaugh will be returning to join Gustin as a series regular. Cavanaugh plays Dr. Harrison Wells and Eobard Thawne a.k.a. Reverse-Flash, one of Barry’s greatest archenemies. Wells began as Barry’s mentor before he was exposed as the Reverse-Flash in disguise.

‘The Flash’ season 3 is scheduled to premiere on The CW on October 2016. It is based on the DC comic book character of the same name endowed with superhuman speed. It stars Grant Gustin as the titular crime fighter.

The television series has been well-received by critics since its debut on October 2014. It also won the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite TV Drama on the same year.
