Unfortunately for fans, it was confirmed on Wednesday that “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 is where the beloved sitcom is going to end for good. If that is the case, will the writers let fans meet Amy and Sheldon’s baby before they close the curtain?
Even before “The Big Bang Theory” season 12, there had been several rumors that the CBS sitcom is on the verge of getting canceled. But this time, it is no longer just a speculation after producers and CBS confirmed “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 as the show's final season.
Warner Bros. Television, Chuck Lorre Productions, and CBS shared a collective statement through social media on Wednesday to thank fans and confirmed the show’s cancellation. “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ during the past twelve seasons,” the post reads.

The farewell message was accompanied by the main cast’s photo during the first day of filming “The Big Bang Theory” season 12. Meanwhile, the producers and the network’s statement continued, “We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring ‘The Big Bang Theory’ to an epic creative close.”
While that is finally settled, fans still do not know about the events that will complete the promised “epic creative close.” But one favorite plot theory is that Sheldon and Amy will be having a baby.
However, both actor Johnny Galecki and showrunner Steve Holland implied in earlier interviews that they feel like they have done enough arcs centered on a character’s pregnancy. But, who knows, maybe they will consider an exception to complete Sheldon and Amy’s journey to starting a family. It could also be a good farewell treat for fans in “The Big Bang Theory” season 12.
Another exciting plotline that awaits in “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 is the return of Tam Nguyen as an adult. Fans who watched the spinoff “Young Sheldon” season 1 know that Tam (Ryan Phuong) played an important role in Sheldon’s socially awkward high school days. And many are certainly wondering what happened between them that led to Tam not getting introduced in the earlier seasons of “The Big Bang Theory.”
The possibility for Amy and Sheldon to have a baby as well as Tam’s appearance are definitely some of the highlights once the show returns for its last hurrah. “The Big Bang Theory” season 12 premieres on Monday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
