Tesco targets a 300 percent boost in sales compared with 2018 of plant-based meat, such as sausages and burgers, by 2025.
According to analyst firm Mintel, the UK market for products that emulate meat could be worth over $1.42 billion by 2024.
Between 2014 and 2019, UK sales of plant-based foods grew 40 percent from $751 million to an estimated $1.05 billion.
Tesco said that meat and dairy production is a key contributor to climate change and significantly impacts on environments such as the Amazon and Cerrado regions of Brazil.
Tesco also aims to introduce more plant-based varieties while also stocking meat.
The UK's largest retailer said it wanted to focus on making the products affordable and innovative.
