Temasek, a Singaporean state investor, aims to allocate $30 billion in the U.S. over five years, focusing on technology and health sectors. This move reflects the robust growth of the U.S. economy and its leadership in AI advancements.
Temasek Commits $30 Billion to U.S. Markets, Prioritizing AI, Tech, and Healthcare Expansion
In the United States, Temasek, a Singaporean state investor, plans to allocate up to $30 billion over the next five years to industries such as technology, financial services, and health care.
Jane Atherton, Temasek's head of North America, stated to Reuters, "The capital market in the United States is incredibly deep and broad." "The U.S. is really at the forefront of everything that's happening from the AI perspective."
In the second quarter, the U.S. economy recorded a higher rate of growth than anticipated and has since continued to outperform its global counterparts. In a rally partially driven by enthusiasm for artificial intelligence, the S&P 500 has increased by 14.5% this year despite recent turbulence.
According to Nikkei Asia, in contrast, China reported weaker-than-anticipated growth earlier this month and surprised markets by reducing critical short- and long-term interest rates last week to stimulate its economy.
Approximately $63 billion, or 22% of Temasek's investments, are in the Americas, while 19% are in China. Its exposure to the Americas surpassed China's in the most recent financial year for the first time in a decade.
Temasek Targets AI, Semiconductors, and Data Centers Amid Shifting U.S.-China Economic Landscape
According to Atherton, Temasek is interested in sectors connected to artificial intelligence in the United States, including semiconductors, battery storage, and data centers.
Earlier this month, Temasek stated that profits from investments in the United States and India were helping to mitigate underperformance in China. Temasek has also indicated that it is exercising caution concerning China in the context of trade tensions.
"Geopolitics has always been a factor," Atherton stated while acknowledging that China has underperformed the United States and the rest of the world in the past three years.
Temasek oversees a $288 billion portfolio that emphasizes long-term investments, including themes such as sustainability and digitization.
Atherton stated that earnings will be the primary factor influencing the future performance of U.S. equities, particularly in the tech megacap sector.
"You've seen some multiple expansion, but that's been driven by higher growth, and in theory it'll pay for it," she said.
Temasek also seeks investments in public and private markets, as many private equity firms seek to divest.
