Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) shares surged about 19% on Wednesday after the AI server maker issued fiscal 2027 guidance that significantly exceeded Wall Street expectations, easing concerns following its softer preliminary revenue update in July.

For the fiscal fourth quarter, Super Micro reported adjusted earnings of $1.70 per share, topping analysts’ estimate of $1.59. Revenue reached $11.12 billion, slightly below the $11.26 billion consensus forecast but up 93% from the same period a year earlier.

Investors focused heavily on Super Micro’s bullish outlook. The company expects first-quarter revenue between $14.5 billion and $15.5 billion, putting the midpoint at $15 billion versus analysts’ projection of $11.99 billion. Adjusted earnings are forecast at $1.01 to $1.10 per share, also comfortably above the $0.74 consensus estimate.

For fiscal 2027, Super Micro projects revenue of $65 billion to $72 billion, far exceeding Wall Street’s estimate of $54.43 billion. CEO Charles Liang said the company’s AI-focused strategy continues to generate strong results. Super Micro added several hundred enterprise and other customers during the past year, generated more than $60 billion in new orders and entered fiscal 2027 with record backlog.

Profitability also improved sharply. Fourth-quarter gross margin rose to 17.5%, compared with 9.9% in the previous quarter and 9.5% a year earlier. Adjusted gross margin increased to 17.6% from 9.6% in the prior-year quarter.

Net income climbed to $1.18 billion, or $1.62 per diluted share, compared with $195 million, or $0.31 per share, a year earlier.

Despite the upbeat Super Micro earnings and AI server demand outlook, regulatory risks remain. Raymond James analysts noted that strong orders suggest customers are largely looking past an ongoing export-control investigation. U.S. and Taiwanese authorities are reportedly investigating allegations that Nvidia-powered Super Micro servers were illegally routed to China in violation of U.S. export restrictions.

SMCI stock closed at $37.61, gaining 19.02% for the session.
