‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Spoilers: Young Stars Reveal New Installment Involves More Horror Elements; ‘Nashville’ Actor Cast in Important Role

‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is set to involve more horror elements as revealed by the series’ young stars. Meawhile, ‘Nashville’ actor Will Chase has been cast in an important role as Neil Mayfield.

According to Gamespot, the young stars of Netflix’s science-fiction and horror web television series talked about what to expect for season two during a recent interview. Finn Wolfhard confirmed, "I think this season will be a lot [darker]. A lot more horror oriented… I think people are going to like it more than the first season."

Wolfhard plays Mike Wheeler, is one of the main characters in the series and was introduced in season 1’s first episode titled “The Vanishing of Will Byers.” He is Will’s (Noah Schnapp) best friend and is known to be a strong and determined child. He eventually becomes best friends with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) when she suddenly appears in their small town of Hawkins, Indiana.

The young actor’s recent comments are akin to series co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer’s when they mentioned that the upcoming season will be “darker and weirder” than its predecessor.

Gaten Matarazzo also chimed in saying that season 2 will also focus on the series’ supporting characters. He said, "The great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own… You’re going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what’s been going on.”

He continued, “They’re all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend is back and he's not acting like their best friend anymore. He's changed." Matarazzo plays Dustin Henderson, one of Will’s cheerful friends known for his lisp. It was previously speculated that Will may begin his transformation into something sinister since getting back to the real world after having been trapped in the Upside Down.

During an interview with People, the child stars confirmed that work on the popular web television series always had to be treated as a top-secret project. Matarazzo admitted, “My brother always asks me, ‘Gate, can you send me the script?’ I’m like, ‘It’s a new season, and it’s a lot stricter than last year’ cause he read them last year, but this year he’s not able to ’cause we don’t want any, like, hacking interference.”

Meanwhile, Will Chase of ‘Nashville’ fame has joined the cast for season 2. According to TVLine, the American actor and singer will play an important role as the series moves along. It was revealed that Chase will take on the role of Neil Mayfield, the father of a new family that moves to Hawkins from California. It was speculated that Neil may be the father of Dacre Montgomery’s Billy and Sadie Sink’s Max, who have both been included in the main cast for the upcoming season.

‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is scheduled to air on Netflix on October 31, 2017.
