“Split” 2 Confirmed? M. Night Shyamalan Teases Sequel; Will James McAvoy Return?

Will the psychological horror film “Split” get a sequel? It appears so, should we base it on a tweet by director M. Night Shyamalan.

The Guardian noted that the director heavily intimated this idea as his next project. He tweeted on February 5, “I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag. I can't tell you what it is, but If you've seen #Split…”

“Split” tells the story of a man named Kevin Crumb (James McAvoy) who has 23 different personalities, and terrorized a group of girls whom he kidnapped earlier on in the film. The film topped the box office in its first three weeks of release. The film raked in USD143 million worldwide on a production budget of USD9 million.

Last month, Shyamalan told USA Today that “Split” was actually a secret sequel to his 2000 film “Unbreakable.” The connection was established towards the end of the film, when a news report compared Crumb’s arrest to that of Mr. Glass’ (Samuel L. Jackson), who was the resident baddie in “Unbreakable.” David Dunn (Bruce Willis), who was the superhero against Mr. Glass, is also seen in “Split” towards the end of the movie watching the report on Crumb’s arrest at a diner counter.

“People who saw it early were like, ‘You know what? This really reminds me of Unbreakable.’ And I’m like, “Really, that’s interesting.”When they see the movie, they’ll be like, ‘I knew it!’ Maybe they’ll even think they gave me the idea,” Shyamalan said.

Cinemablend said that particular scene connecting the two films opens a possibility for Willis’ and McAvoy’ characters to face-off, most probably in Shyamalan’s upcoming sequel. Although he’s primarily unaware of the connection, he is really up to the task.

“If it's good material, I don't mind if it's a franchise. If it's good work and I'm getting to work with good people and I'm getting to do interesting things with my day then, yeah, I'm bang up for it. I don't care if it's a franchise or not. I'm all up for a good old franchise if it is a good old franchise,” he was quoted as saying.
