KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 07, 2016 -- Historic BBQ, winner of the Smithfield Great Rib Rivalry and Smithfield’s sponsored team for the 2016 competitive season, was honored last month in its hometown with three commendations from Ohio State leaders. The much-deserved commendations are a result of Historic BBQ winning the coveted Smithfield title and in turn, help to place their hometown of Lebanon on the map.
Historic BBQ was named the Smithfield 2016 Team of the Year this January at Kansas City Barbecue Society’s (KCBS) 30th Annual Awards Banquet after scoring top performances in KCBS competitions and Smithfield-branded contests throughout 2015. Following the announcement the team was commended by Ohio State Representative Ron Maag of the 62nd District, Ohio Senator Shannon Jones of the 7th District and the City of Lebanon’s Mayor, Amy Brewer.
“Small business is vital to Ohio, so I am very excited to see a wonderful, growing company like Historic BBQ recognized nationally by Smithfield with such a well-deserved honor,” said Senator Jones. “I’m anxious to see what the future holds for these hard-working guys from Warren County.”
In addition to launching the Great Rib Rivalry last year, March 1 marked the official kick off to the Smokin’ With Smithfield loyalty program. Each team that commits to cooking with Smithfield at KCBS-sanctioned events will have the opportunity to win up to $5,000 in cash prizes in each category as well as $180 for each perfect 180 score they receive.
