The San Diego office is led by Bonnie Khang-Keating, who is also maintaining her current role leading SmithGroupJJR’s Los Angeles office. “Our Los Angeles office has experienced tremendous growth over the past 6 years, which has made us more visible in the region and helped us attract a great roster of clients who were drawn to our design excellence. We are doing exciting work for clients like the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, the County of San Diego and Scripps Health and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to continue to build on our positive momentum in San Diego,” Khang-Keating said.
SmithGroupJJR Managing Partner Russ Sykes believes that the launch of the San Diego office is additional evidence of the firm’s steady growth pattern. “We have had a lot of success in the past several years and are thrilled to be expanding our influence on the west coast,” Sykes said. “The combination of our future focused approach to integrated design, stellar client service and a team of professionals who are leaders in their fields provides us with a strong platform for continued success. We have ambitious plans for the firm and what we’re accomplishing in San Diego is just one of the ways we’re achieving our goals.”
The new office was established to capitalize on the firm’s success in securing a wide range of exciting projects in the San Diego area including:
- A next-generation hospital at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. This facility, scheduled to be completed in 2019, will add 138 private patient rooms, six large operating rooms and a rooftop café to meet the growing needs of southern San Diego County.
- The County of San Diego Regional Crime Lab will house 200 employees, bringing together operations for forensic lab technicians, property and evidence storage facilities, and detectives under the same roof for the first time. This project, which will be completed in summer 2018, illustrates the integrated philosophy of SmithGroupJJR with management and construction services, laboratory planning, and design and engineering all being provided by the firm.
- A 10-year master plan for Scripps Health that will help them evolve to serve changing patient needs and provide the medical care of the future. The program includes comprehensive space planning and programming for three hospitals and a multiple-campus functional space program.
The San Diego office of SmithGroupJJR is located at 225 Broadway in downtown San Diego.
