Samsung Electronics Co. topped Egypt's smartphone market from April to June with 23.8 percent of sales.
Trailing Samsung were Chinese brands Oppo at second and third-placer Xiaomi.
According to market researcher International Data Corp. (IDC), Egypt's smartphone market expanded 2.2 percent on-quarter to 2.88 million units.
Taher Abdel Hameed, a senior research analyst at IDC, said that while the demand for smartphones in Egypt did not slow down during the pandemic, there was a change in market dynamics on both consumers and vendors.
He noted that consumers opted for cheaper phones, while vendors supplied affordable models with higher specs due to the challenging conditions during the pandemic.
In the second quarter, the sales of smartphones priced below US$100 in Egypt jumped to 30.5 percent from 17.5 percent in the previous year, while the market share of devices with screen sizes between 6.5 and 7 inches increased 12.4 percent on-quarter to 45.4 percent.
