"Outlander's" main star couple, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, were unable to attend the official “Outlander” convention that was held last August 17 to 19 at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Both Heughan and Balfe were unfortunately sidelined by commitments with upcoming movies.

Sam Heughan, who plays the Scottish laird Jamie Fraser, was the first of the stars to cancel his appearance at the convention due to a scheduling conflict with his film shooting in South Africa for his upcoming film with Vin Diesel, “Bloodshot.” The movie is based on Valiant's comic book superhero of the same name and is being produced by Sony. With Vin Diesel in talks to play the titular character, the details of Sam Heughan's role in the movie has yet to be released to the public.

Caitriona Balfe, who plays time-traveling romantic Claire Fraser, had to cancel at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts with her upcoming untitled Fox project featuring a Ford versus Ferrari storyline to be produced by Chernin Entertainment. Matt Damon and Christian Bale, who will be playing the visionary automotive designer Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles respectively, will be starring alongside Balfe – who will be portraying Ken Miles' wife in the upcoming film.

While fans with Gold and Silver passes, which include autograph assurances from the stars, were disappointed about the cancellations by two of the show's leads, Heughan and Balfe still graced the “Outlander” Official Convention by video chatting with the fans during the event. Heughan had teased a big surprise for fans disappointed about the schedule mix-ups a day before the convention.

Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, who play Brianna Fraser and Roger MacKenzie in “Outlander” respectively, were also present at the convention to the delight of fans. Fans of “Outlander” who can't wait to see Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe again can look forward to the series' fourth season to return with its premiere episode on Nov. 4.
