‘Riverdale’ season 1’s episode 12, titled “Chapter Twelve: Anatomy of a Murder," will follow Archie and Veronica as they suspect that someone framed F.P. for Jason’s murder. The gang may soon discover the killer’s true identity in the upcoming episode.
The lengthy synopsis for “Chapter Twelve: Anatomy of a Murder” posted on TV Guide reads, “Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) are shocked by the arrest but know they must come clean to their parents about what they uncovered and, still hurt by the betrayal of his friends and torn over whom to trust, a reluctant Jughead (Cole Sprouse) joins them in a quest for truth.
Meanwhile, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) confronts her mom (Nathalie Boltt) about how she treats her as opposed to how she did Jason (Trevor Stines).”
The upcoming episode is set to follow the events from the previous episode, titled "Chapter Eleven: To Riverdale and Back Again." F.P. (Skeet Ulrich) was arrested for the murder of Jason Blossom after police issued a warrant to search his trailer and found a gun. When Jughead disappeared, Archie and Veronica began to suspect that someone framed F.P. for the crime.
The two will struggle to tell their parents about their discoveries. Jughead is set to join them in finding the truth despite being hurt by his friends’ betrayal.
The promo opens to Archie and Veronica insisting that F.P. was framed for the crime even though he was actually innocent. Jughead then demands to know answers as he tells Betty (Lili Reinhart), “If it wasn’t my dad, who killed Jason Blossom?”
In the next scenes, Penelope is confronted about killing her own son. By the end of the promo, Archie and his friends are seen watching what seems to be footage of Jason’s death playing out on a laptop. They look on with horror and shock as a gunshot is heard in the background.
According to Glamour, creator and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed during a recent panel at the Paley Center for Media that they already knew who Jason’s killer was. Aguirre-Sacasa said, "It was really early on… Three weeks into the writers' room, we pitched [the outline] for season one. [Studio executives] said you can't go into the season without telling the writers who killed Jason. We had three possible suspects, and one of those people who we talked about is the killer."
Mendes, who plays Veronica on the series, expressed her surprise when she was revealed the killer’s identity. She said, "I was terrified and shocked! But I had expected it in some way. We all had our suspicions.”
She added, “We’d all considered this person before, but we didn’t know for sure because it’s Riverdale. Anyone could have done it. When I read it for the first time, it made sense, but it was still shocking. It ties everything together.”
‘Riverdale’ season 1’s episode 12, titled “Chapter Twelve: Anatomy of a Murder," is scheduled to air on The CW on May 4, 2017. It was directed by Rob Seidenglanz and written by Michael Grassi. It will be followed by episode 13, titled "Chapter Thirteen: The Sweet Hereafter," directed by Lee Toland Krieger and scheduled to be released on May 11.
