Prince William, Prince Harry Reconciliation Unlikely To Happen This Christmas -- Here's Why

Prince William and Princess Kate are reportedly not attending the royal family's Christmas dinner this year if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decide to grace the annual event.

Prince William and Princess Kate would not attend Sandringham for Christmas this year if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle go, a new report claimed. The Prince of Wales is reportedly not interested in fixing his strained relationship with the Duke of Sussex as he has “closed his mind to thoughts of reconciliation any time soon.”

Prince William Doesn’t Have Plans To Fix Relationship With Prince Harry

Friends of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed this weekend that the couple may accept a Christmas invitation if they receive one this year. However, Palace officials have cautioned that if Prince William and Princess Kate decide to return to the UK for Christmas, they will not attend Sandringham this year, noting the two brothers' growing schism.

Now, royal expert Jennie Bond claims that tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry are "much too raw" and that the Prince of Wales is refusing to reconcile with his brother for a specific reason. "I think William has closed his mind to thoughts of reconciliation any time soon and has simply moved on with his life. It’s probably his coping mechanism, just as Harry says he blocked out all feelings about losing his mother for the first few years after Diana’s death,” she said to OK! Magazine.

According to the expert, Prince William is completely focused on his duties as Prince of Wales and has no time to deal with the rivalry. "William will probably have to deal with the rift with Harry one day but right now he is making his mark as Prince of Wales and enjoying great popularity and a wonderfully happy home life,” Jennie went on.

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties in 2020, the Duke of Sussex has been alienated from his brother. The relationship between the brothers has deteriorated since the duke published his explosive tell-all memoir earlier this year, in which he made various charges and discoveries about the Royal Family. In addition, Prince Harry accused his elder brother of "physically assaulting" him.

Prince William Told King Charles To Spend More Time With His Kids

Meanwhile, in the 2018 documentary Prince Charles at 70, Prince William spoke openly about King Charles not spending enough time with his children, but things have changed since then. A royal insider recently claimed that King Charles, who recently turned 75, has been going out of his way to be more involved, even stopping in Windsor on his route to Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

The Daily Express contacted Even the Royals podcast co-host Aricia Skidmore-Williams to inquire about King Charles' change of heart, as well as whether William's outspokenness played a factor in Charles spending more time with his grandchildren. Skidmore-Williams attributes it to both William and society in general.

“I could see it creating change. I think overall the narrative of fathers being with their children has shifted over the past half century for the better and whenever those in the public eye model behavior like that, I think it’s great,” Aricia told the publication. “I do understand that there is a precedent for being very circumspect, but I think in this day and age especially, it’s far more beneficial to be more open,” she went on.

Aricia believes that by opening up, the royals become more relatable. “A common complaint about royals is them being out of touch, and I think by speaking more candidly, it allows the public to connect with them,” the podcast host stated.

King Charles discussed being a father in the 1994 documentary Charles: The Private Man, the Public Role, saying, "As they get older, the more things perhaps they, being boys, can do with their father. That's obviously more and more enjoyable, but I've always mucked around with them a great deal." A royal source claimed, “Charles wants to spend more time with his grandchildren.”
