Poland’s retail sales are likely to have been stimulated in December by the child subsidy program. The positive impacts of the program are finally seen in the retail sales data. The data for sales recorded by certain firms lends weight to the view, noted Societe Generale in a research report. For instance, large-cap footwear retailer CCC’s sales grew 50 percent in December.
Growth of retail sales in December was mainly due to textiles, footwear and clothing. Moreover, the effects of pre-end-of-year sales might also be seen. According to Societe Generale, retail sales growth is expected to have accelerated to 7.9 percent year-on-year in December from November’s 6.6 percent year-on-year.
