NEW YORK, May 01, 2017 -- Pepper Hamilton LLP announced that H. Peter Haveles, Jr. joined the firm as partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group, resident in the New York office.

Formerly a partner in Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer’s Complex Commercial Litigation Department, Mr. Haveles focuses his practice on representing financial services institutions and other participants in the financial markets in connection with civil litigation, and investigations and enforcement actions pursued by regulatory agencies and major exchanges arising out of U.S. and foreign securities, options, futures, derivatives, capital markets and asset-backed transactions as well as financial institutions, corporations, and individuals in a broad array of commercial and corporate litigation throughout the United States. These disputes have involved breach of contract, lender liability claims, enforcement of indentures and intercreditor agreements, fraudulent conveyance claims, corporate governance, acquisition and shareholder disputes, preservation and restructuring of distressed assets, major real estate loan defaults and partnership disputes.

Mr. Haveles has substantial trial experience before the federal district and bankruptcy courts, state courts (in New York and across the United States), arbitration panels, administrative law judges and self-regulatory organizations, as well as substantial appellate experience before the federal circuit courts of appeals and the California and New York state appellate courts.
He received an A.B., cum laude, from Harvard University (1976), and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law (1980), where he was the editor of the Boston University Law Review.
Between college and law school, Mr. Haveles was a Rotary Foundation Fellow and pursued graduate studies in political science at the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth, Wales.
Mr. Haveles is recognized as a “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Litigation (2012-2015), and additionally recognized by Super Lawyers (2008 – 2017) for his practice. In 2015, he was awarded the Burton Prize for Distinguished Legal Writing.
