'Outlander' season 6 likely release will be in 2021 as filming has yet to resume

With the coronavirus (CoVid-19) pretty much-halting everything around the world, season 6 of the Outlander might follow season 5 for a late release.

Outlander's season five was supposed to be released in late 2019, however, the first episode only aired February this year and the finale aired May.

And, with filming yet to resume, a 2020 release date for season 6 seems unlikely.

Seems like there will be a droughtlander and even Sam Heughan joked about it. Droughtlander is a term or a title that is used in between Outlander seasons.

However, Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, has given an assurance that people behind the show are doing their best to get production up and running.

Heughan, according to Digital Spy, had appeared on This Morning on June 16, 2020 via a video link and talked about season 6.

The Scottish heartthrob added that he hopes the production will go full throttle as the show's bosses are starting to implement plans so filming could resume.

Heughan also talked about how he is surprised that Outlander has lasted years considering that they have now done five seasons in six years.

For season 6, Heughan will of course be joined by Caitriona Balfe who plays wife Claire Fraser to his Jamie Fraser.

Other characters expected to return to season 6 are Sam and Claire's daughter, Brianna Randall Fraser, played by Sophie Skelton, and her husband Roger Wakefield played by Richard Rankin.

No official plot was released for season 6 but most likely it will take some points from the sixth book of the Outlander series—A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

The book series is written by Diana Gabaldon, who was very pleased of having Sam Heughan play the character of Jamie Fraser.
