“Orange Is The New Black” Season 5 To Be Released Soon? Hacker Claims To Release Stolen Fifth Installment From Netflix For “Undisclosed” Ransom

Multiple reports are saying that a hacker has stolen the yet-to-be-released fifth season of its prison comedy-drama “Orange Is The New Black.”

In a ransom note, a person under the name The Dark Lord said he has uploaded the first episode of “Orange Is The New Black” Season 5 to an illegal file-sharing service already, and that he will release the rest unless “modest” ransoms are not paid, Deadline reported. The ransom note indicated that the hacker stolen a number of series, including the new season of “Orange Is The New Black,” by breaching into a single company.

Variety confirmed that Netflix is already aware of the matter, and the FBI, among other authorities. are said to be investigating the incident. The streaming service clarified the situation in a statement, “We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved.”

The Associated Press, who first reported the incident, said rumors of a massive leak of Hollywood films and TV episodes have been going online for months already, which was backed by supposed footage screenshots and a copy of the said deal that would have the hacker earn thousands of dollars in digital currency in exchange for deleting the files. Back in February, The Dark Lord said the stolen series wouldn’t be made available online after all, as "no one really (cares) about unreleased movies and TV show episodes." It is not made known why the said hacker renewed the demands.

"Orange Is The New Black" Season 5 will debut on Netflix on June 9 this year.
