Norges Bank to stand pat in January, to hike rate in March

Norges Bank is set to meet this week for an intermediate meeting without a monetary policy report or a press conference. The central bank will not release any new rate path during this meeting. The central bank is likely to stand pat during the meeting.

In its December meeting, the Executive Board had decided to keep the policy rate on hold at 0.75 percent. The decision was unanimous and consistent with consensus expectations. Norges Bank guided for an additional rate hike in March 2019.

“The average policy rate in the interest rate path for 2019 is 0.78 percent in Q1 and 1.00 percent in Q2. This is well in line with a hike at the meeting 21 March”, noted DNB Markets in a research report.
