Melissa McCarthy was recently spotted at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival during the Fox party and fans will be extremely surprised by how much weight the “Spy” star has lost. The 48-year-old actress was at the Toronto Film Fest for the screening of her latest film, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
In an interview with E! News, Melissa McCarthy mentions being drawn to the character of Lee Israel – the most popular celebrity biographer in the '70s and '80s – whom she portrays in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Lee Israel penned the biographies of famous personalities such as Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, and Estée Lauder. The movie focuses on the lean periods for Lee Israel when she was forced to forge celebrity letters to make a living, encouraged by a close friend.
Melissa McCarthy mentions that her fascination with Israel's character comes from the fact that Israel is hardly the clean, proper, and polite female character that most audiences expect to see. Considering her enthusiasm for playing the role of Lee Israel, Melissa McCarthy is generating significant interest for her performance in the movie just in time for the awards season. This – aside from her healthy weight loss – may continue to be a positive direction for McCarthy considering that most of her previous roles have been comedy-centric.
Richard E. Grant – known for his recent role as Izembaro in HBO's “Game of Thrones” – co-stars with McCarthy in the biographical drama film as her close friend, Jack Hock. Grant's Hock is the character that encourages Lee Israel to fabricate the celebrity letters that eventually lead to the famed biographer's downfall. Melissa McCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone, also gets a role in the movie as Alan Schmidt.
Fans of Melissa McCarthy who have been intrigued by her upcoming movie can catch “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” in theaters on Oct. 19.
