DAYTON, Ohio, Sept. 07, 2017 -- MacAulay-Brown, Inc. (MacB), a leading National Security company delivering advanced engineering services, cybersecurity and product solutions, announced today that more than 90 employees, family members and friends will participate in the 21st Annual Air Force Marathon in Dayton on the weekend of September 15-16. Runners, walkers and volunteers participate in planned activities on the third Saturday in September every year. Race coordinators from MacB’s Advanced Technology Group (ATG) and Human Resources help manage entry forms and T-shirt design/distribution. ATG personnel serve multiple U.S. Air Force programs based out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
MacB employees have participated in every Air Force Marathon since the program’s inception in 1997. In fact, service and community involvement are engrained into the company’s culture with active fundraising and charitable events, philanthropic donations/scholarships, volunteer work, and through company-sponsored mentoring programs.
This year, more than 15,000 people will race representing all 50 U.S. states, as well as other countries in four main distances including the 26.2-mile full marathon, a half marathon, 10k, and a 5K race. Sponsored by Wright State University, the 5K will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by the traditional Gourmet Pasta Dinner at the famed National Museum of the Air Force.
The full Marathon and 10K race will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, with the Wheeled Marathon and Half Marathon set for 7:25 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively. The full marathon navigates runners through historical places on base including the National Museum, the Air Force Institute of Technology, Headquarters Air Force Material Command, the Wright-Patterson AFB Flight Line, Huffman Prairie Flying Field and the Wright Brothers Memorial Monument.
“Our employees always encourage each other to sign-up for the marathon, train hard, and then turn out in force no matter what the weather,” said Dr. Phil Nielsen, Chief Scientist for MacB’s Advanced Technology Group (ATG). “I’ve been organizing participation for many years, and can honestly say that interest and recognition for the Air Force Marathon has grown into what it is today. Even though I’ve slowed down over the years, I still plan to walk in the 5K race on Friday evening, and cheer on all our Saturday participants.”
