‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Season 2 Updates: Producer Marc Guggenheim Teases New Direction with Time Cops; Series Unaffected by ‘The Flash’ Flashpoint Storyline

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ season 2 will head to a new direction with time cops as revealed by producer Marc Guggenheim. Meanwhile, it was also revealed that the series will be unaffected by the Flashpoint storyline to be featured on ‘The Flash’.

During an interview with Collider, Guggenheim revealed that the incoming season will pick up six months after the events of the first with a time jump with the Legends acting as time cops patrolling the void left behind by The Time Masters.

Guggenheim admitted that season 1 provided possibilities for exploring the series’ narrative further saying, “The show has so many challenges, and certainly one of them has been that the show can be anything, so what’s it gonna be? That’s one of the reasons why we approach the season by figuring out, what is the team’s mission statement? What is the raison d’être of the show? Once you have that structure, that does help narrow your focus.”

He added, “We planted the seeds for this, at the end of last season, when in the season finale, Rip said, “The Time Masters are gone. Someone else needs to protect history.” The Legends appointed themselves because we knew we wanted them to basically be acting as time cops. That’s fundamentally what they’re doing, and that structure, while loose, helps focus us.”

When asked if season 2 will bring in new antagonists, Guggenheim confirmed the show will not just focus on one primary villain. He explained, “There is a season-long mythology and a season-long big bad that we’re building up to, but unlike Season 1 of Legends, it’s not where you’re starting. It’s something that slowly unfolds, and there’s an element of mystery to it. In that sense, it’s a lot more like Arrow and The Flash are.”

He revealed, “When we pick up with them, it’s six months later and they’ve been policing time for six months. Everyone is in a little bit of a different place.” According to Blastr, he said that Ray (Brandon Routh) will be embracing his new role as a Time Cop while Jax (Franz Drameh) is fulfilling his own as the Waverider’s engineer and chief mechanic. On the downside, Rory (Dominic Purcell) is struggling with trying to find his place in the team of superheroes.

Meanwhile, Sara (Caity Lotz) will have a “secret agenda” linked to the death of her sister in ‘Arrow’ while Rip (Arthur Darvill) is coming to terms with the death of his own wife and son.

Although ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is basically a show revolving on time travel, it is apparently unaffected by the time-altering events that took place in ‘The Flash’, according to Moviepilot. It was previously speculated that events in ‘The Flash’ may have had severe implications on The CW’s fictional universe, the “Arrowverse”.

Showrunner and “Arrowverse” creator Greg Berlanti revealed that the Flashpoint storyline will be contained within ‘The Flash’ season 3 and will not directly affect other shows with the exception of some off-shoots in ‘Arrow’ season 5.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is an action-adventure and fantasy television series intended as a spin-off of ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’. It is based on the characters from the DC comic books.

It was developed for The CW by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, and Phil Klemmer. Season 2 is scheduled to debut on the network on October 13, 2016.
