Ledger announces feature rich ‘Ledger Blue’ hardware wallet

Paris-based blockchain firm Ledger announced the launch of ‘Ledger Blue’, an advanced, feature rich hardware security gear, in the market.

The enterprise-grade security device has multi-application execution and packs enterprise-level crypto-capabilities on a lightweight handheld device. The feature rich device is architected around a Secure Element, that has a touchscreen and USB & Bluetooth connectivity, the announcement stated.

“When deploying enterprise blockchain applications in production, security of digital assets and cryptographic keys is of paramount importance. The Ledger Blue is a powerful and flexible solution for enterprise-grade blockchain applications, ensuring the integrity of transactions at the endpoint level,” Casey Kuhlman, CEO Monax, Ledger’s technological partner said.

The high-end ‘Ledger Blue’ device embeds a large touchscreen to securely manage transactions and complex smart contracts. It is slick and yet robust casing that encloses the best-in-class technology built upon Blockchain Open Ledger Operating System (BOLOS). Packed with hardware features, the device is powered by a lipo rechargeable battery. Ledger Blue runs multiple dedicated companion apps in full isolation on top of its firmware. Its security model allows including new cryptocurrencies or apps without the risk of compromising of the master seed.

Talking about partnering with Ledger, Richard Caetano, CEO of Stratumn said, “At Stratumn, we closely partner with Ledger to secure how customers and partners interact with Proof of Process Technology. Their open source SDK allows our team to build application-specific interfaces, making the experience seamless and complete.”

The device’s key features include cryptographic secrets protected by an EAL6+ secure element (ST31G480), 3"5 inches color touch screen interface, 500mA lipo rechargeable battery, 4–8 digits PIN security lock for identity attestation, multi-apps quick launch dashboard, built-in onboarding, and configuration, among many others.

Apart from these, the device has blockchain support including bitcoin (COLU, counterparty support), Ethereum (ETH/ETC) tokens & contracts support, Monero, Tendermint, Hyperledger, among others. It also has software support like Ledger Wallet Bitcoin and Ethereum Chrome app, GreenBits & GreenAddress, Copay etc. as well as cryptographic support.

Ledger Blue is available for pre-order for the price of 229 EUR and the device delivery is scheduled for December 15th, 2016.
