Keurig Dr Pepper has revealed a multi-year innovation agenda for its Keurig® single-serve brewing system. The agenda includes an entirely reimagined coffee system and a range of new products and technologies to meet coffee consumers' evolving needs.
K-Rounds Plastic-Free Pods Revolutionize Coffee Brewing
PR Newswire reported that at the core of the Company's future vision lies K-Rounds plastic-free pods, a groundbreaking form of single-serve coffee. These pods are crafted from expertly roasted coffee beans that undergo grinding, pressing, and wrapping in a proprietary plant-based coating. This protective coating preserves the flavor and aroma of the coffee, eliminating the necessity for plastic or aluminum.
Keurig Alta Brewer and Barista-Style Beverages
According to Street Insider, the new Keurig Alta brewer will support K-Rounds plastic-free pods as part of the reimagined Keurig system. Consumers can now enjoy a variety of hot and cold barista-style beverages, from bold espresso with velvety crema to aroma-rich hot coffee or refreshing cold brews, without the need for mastering complex brewing techniques.
Consumers will play a vital role in the ongoing development of the Keurig Alta system through various beta testing phases, with the first phase commencing as early as fall 2024. Keurig plans to use insights from these trials and feedback from retailers and coffee brand partners to refine and optimize the system before its broader release to consumers.
Bob Gamgort, Chairman and CEO of Keurig Dr Pepper, expressed his excitement, stating, "Today, we are leveraging all our expertise to introduce a revolutionary new system that will redefine how consumers brew coffee for decades to come."
Versatile Brewing Options with K-Rounds
The unique plastic- and aluminum-free design of K-Rounds enables brewing at both high and low pressures, catering to espresso-based drinks and drip coffee, hot or cold. Consumers can indulge in various coffeehouse drinks without premium prices, thanks to the innovative K-Rounds pods.
K-Rounds plastic-free pods in various sizes tailored to specific coffee beverages will be available. Each pod will feature a code that the Keurig Alta brewer reads automatically to determine the required pressure and extraction profile for maximizing each coffee variety's flavor, aroma, and richness. After use, these pods can be disposed of like coffee grounds and are set to be certified compostable.
The eco-friendly nature of K-Rounds plastic-free pods aligns with environmental sustainability efforts. Their compostable certification ensures a reduced environmental footprint, offering consumers a guilt-free coffee experience.
The new Keurig Alta brewer will accommodate K-Rounds pods and also allow consumers to brew existing K-Cup® pods. This versatility allows consumers to enjoy various coffee options, further enhancing the brewing experience.
