Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast has announced major cabinet changes as his administration intensifies its focus on public security, migration control, and economic reform. The reshuffle comes just two months after Kast officially took office, reinforcing his campaign promises to tackle rising crime and strengthen Chile’s economy through pro-market policies.
Under the new changes, Martin Arrau has been appointed as Chile’s new security minister. Arrau previously served as public works minister and is considered a close ally of Kast in advancing the government’s law-and-order strategy. His appointment highlights the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security and tightening border controls amid growing public concern over crime and illegal migration.
Claudio Alvarado, who currently serves as interior minister, has also been named the government’s new spokesperson. Alvarado will continue handling the interior ministry while taking on communication duties for the administration. The dual role is expected to give Kast’s government a more unified public message as it moves forward with key reforms.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Louis de Grange will assume responsibility for the public works ministry in addition to his current transport portfolio. The move consolidates infrastructure and transportation oversight under a single leadership structure aimed at improving efficiency and supporting economic growth projects.
President Kast campaigned heavily on restoring public order, reducing government spending, and implementing deregulation measures designed to attract investment and boost business confidence in Chile. His administration has emphasized tougher policies on migration and criminal activity while promoting free-market economic reforms.
The cabinet reshuffle signals that security and economic modernization remain top priorities for the Chilean government as Kast works to deliver on the promises that helped secure his election victory in 2026.
