Italy’s trade surplus widens in September

Italy’s seasonally adjusted exports for the month of September increased 1.6 percent, whereas imports dropped 4.5 percent, according to Italy’s official statistical office, Istat. Exports to EU nations dropped by 3.3 percent, whereas to non-EU nations it rose 0.5 percent. Imports from EU countries dropped 4.6 percent, and from non-EU nations it fell 4.3 percent. In the third quarter, the seasonally adjusted exports rose 0.6 percent, while imports rose 1.7 percent.

On a year-on-year basis, exports rose 3.1 percent, whereas imports dropped 2.7 percent. Exports to EU countries grew 3.2 percent and for non-EU nations it rose 3 percent. Italy has recorded a trade surplus of EUR 3.67 billion in September, an increase from EUR 2.49 billion in the previous month.
