Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip killed at least six Palestinians on Sunday, including a 9-year-old girl, as mediators continued negotiations aimed at preserving the U.S.-brokered Israel-Hamas ceasefire and advancing the next phase of a proposed peace agreement.
According to Palestinian health officials, 9-year-old Tala Abu Matar was killed after Israeli gunfire struck a tent encampment on the eastern edge of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The Israeli military said it was not aware of the reported incident.
In Gaza City, an Israeli airstrike targeted a metal foundry in the Sabra neighborhood, killing four people. Witnesses said three missiles hit the site. The Israeli military stated the strike targeted Hamas militants allegedly operating inside a weapons production facility, describing it as a response to what it called a violation of the ceasefire by the militant group.
Later in the day, medics reported that another Israeli strike hit a tent camp in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, killing at least one person and injuring several others, including children. Israel's military did not immediately comment on the attack.
The latest violence comes despite the ceasefire reached in October 2025, which largely halted large-scale fighting but has not ended deadly incidents in Gaza. Palestinian officials say more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the truce took effect, while Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants during the same period.
Meanwhile, Hamas officials traveled to Cairo for fresh negotiations on implementing the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan. Sources familiar with the talks said discussions are focused on Hamas disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, but no breakthrough has been achieved. Hamas maintains that repeated Israeli military actions remain a major obstacle to moving the ceasefire process forward.
The conflict began after Hamas-led militants killed about 1,200 people during the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, according to Israeli figures. Gaza health authorities say more than 73,000 Palestinians have since been killed, while nearly all of Gaza's two million residents remain displaced, living in tents or damaged buildings under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.
