WILMINGTON, Del., March 19, 2018 -- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, today announced the successful completion of the oneM2M™ Hackathon Dallas 2018, which was held March 9th and 10th at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).
The hackathon was hosted by ETSI, Tech Titans, Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), and UTD, with the support of Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), Deutsche Telekom, InterDigital, Sensinov, and KnowThings.io. The event presented the IoT vision, challenges, and efforts by standardization bodies as well as an introduction of the oneM2M standard as the key solution for IoT cross-domain interoperability. Student participant groups were asked to integrate heterogeneous IoT devices and develop IoT applications based on the project, Eclipse OM2M, which offers a full open source implementation of the oneM2M standard.
The hackathon was focused around the theme of Smart Cities. InterDigital provided datasets from its oneTRANSPORT™ data marketplace, an open data sharing service enabling smart city collaborative services. Participants developed user applications based on the oneM2M standard that utilized the oneTRANSPORT data marketplace data and were hosted on Arduino-based devices as well as personal devices. The completed projects featured use cases such as smart parking, air quality, and traffic control among others.
“The IoT market still needs to overcome challenges of interoperability, complexity and scalability before enabling true mass-scale deployment. A common architecture for IoT cross-domain interoperability can address many of these challenges,” said Dale Seed, Principal Engineer, InterDigital. “InterDigital has been an active contributor to standards-based IoT since the very beginning. Supporting events such as the oneM2M Hackathon Dallas underscores our continued commitment.”
In February, InterDigital announced the launch of the oneTRANSPORT data marketplace as a commercial service in the U.K. The service has its roots in a two-year field trial, which brought together eleven public and private partners and more than 300 different datasets. The oneTRANSPORT data marketplace operates on the Chordant™ platform, a standardized cloud-based system built for real-time data, recognized by 11 industry awards to date.
