‘Insidious 4’ Film Updates: Lin Shaye Returns as Parapsychologist Elise Rainier, Joined by New Cast Members; Production Officially Begins

‘Insidious 4’ is set to feature the return of Lin Shaye as the parapsychologist Elise Rainier, who investigates cases of demonic possession. She is joined by new cast members including Kirk Acevedo of ‘The Walking Dead’ and Bruce Davison of ‘X-Men’. Production for the fourth film has officially begun.

According to Deadline, Shaye will be returning to reprise her role as parapsychologist Elise Rainier in the fourth installment of the successful horror series ‘Insidious’. Shaye was first introduced as Elise in the first film ‘Insidious’ released in 2011. She received a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as a nomination for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.

The 72-year old actress is best known for her horror film roles and is deemed one of cinema’s “scream queens”. She worked on various films such as 1984’s ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, 1986’s ‘Critters’, 1993’s ‘Amityville: A New Generation’, 1994’s ‘Wes Craven’s New Nightmare’, and 2014’s ‘Ouija’.

Shaye’s Elise investigated possession in the first three films in the series. She is joined by new cast members Kirk Acevedo, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke, and Caitlin Gerard. According to IGN, Acevedo is known for his roles in AMC’s post-apocalyptic television series ‘The Walking Dead’ as well as in HBO’s war miniseries ‘Band of Brothers’.

Davison is featured prominently in Marvel’s X-Men franchise as Senator Robert Kelly while Locke’s credits include 2006’s ‘Monster House’, 2007 and 2010’s ‘Resident Evil’ movies, and 2011’s ‘Detention’. Lastly, Gerard is best known for her role in ABC’s crime-anthology drama television series ‘American Crime’ as well as her work on films such as 2010’s ‘The Social Network’, 2012’s ‘Magic Mike’, and 2012’s ‘Smiley’.

Emmy-nominated producer, writer and director Adam Robitel is set to helm the new film from a screenplay prepared by Leigh Whannel. Robitel made his directorial debut for the found footage horror-mystery film ‘The Taking of Deborah Logan’, which earned positive reviews from critics. Production for the fourth installment has officially begun, according to Den of Geek.

‘Insidious 4’ is an upcoming horror film scheduled to premiere on U.S. theaters on October 20, 2017. It is intended as the fourth installment in the critically and commercially successful horror series of the same name.

The film is produced by Blumhouse Productions, Entertainment One, LStar Capital, and Stage 6 Films. It is distributed by Columbia Pictures in the United States.
