Humidity Regulation Innovator Wilson Huang Transforms Industries with ATMOSIScience

Written by: James Carnell

Monitoring the humidity in certain environments is critical for a range of products: cigars, electronics, medicines, and even large warehouses or museums need to maintain a specific level of humidity in the air for quality control purposes. If you've ever walked into a cigar shop, the sweet, sticky scent combined with the thick, moist air creates a sensory experience that you will always associate with cigars. Achieving the perfect level of humidity in the air is challenging, so being able to regulate humidity levels is a game changer for cigar salespeople.

The moisture in the air, when it becomes too much or too little, can negatively impact products and production lines in various industries. However, with Wilson Huang working with ATMOSIScience, businesses can stop worrying about humidity levels and focus on the quality of their offerings.

Before his experience as a business development manager at ATMOSIScience, Wilson also had entrepreneurial experience. Like many, he broke into the world of entrepreneurship early on, creating his first successful prototype while he was in high school. Huang built an EEG-augmented brain activity monitoring system to help alleviate "highway hypnosis," a prominent cause of accidents while driving. This product monitors the driver's brainwaves and detects drowsiness with a 90% accuracy rate. When drowsiness is detected, the system activates the steering wheel to beep, make a sound, or vibrate based on the user's preferred settings. Wilson's product won first place at an Internet of Things Hackathon hosted by Microsoft.

In college, Huang pursued legal studies at Babson College while simultaneously obtaining a certificate in neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania. During the week, he stayed in Boston at Babson, and on Fridays, he would head down to Pennsylvania to study at UPenn. Though the weeks were long, he networked with people across numerous industries, took advantage of the resources offered by both universities, and opened up a unique set of opportunities for himself.

Forging his own path and going against the grain have been two major themes throughout Wilson's life. His traditional Chinese parents don't always understand why he does what he does, nor do they always agree with it, but Wilson believes in taking risks, failing fast, and learning from doing. Though his path hasn't always been easy, it has brought him here; following his intuition has never led him astray.

Because of his previous entrepreneurial experience, one of Wilson's professors at Babson College connected him with Dr. Sandra, the founder of ATMOSIScience. Dr. Sandra, with 40+ patents and over 20 years of industry experience, leads R&D for the company, while Wilson advances the business aspects in the U.S. Each person is now in the perfect role, and ATMOSIScience is thriving.

With three out of four products reaching mass production levels, it's evident that ATMOSIScience's strategic approach has been effective. Wilson isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, often making in-person visits to potential customers, cold calling, and attending trade shows in Las Vegas. He has also been proactive in utilizing social media to promote their products, employing innovative marketing techniques to grow the business. To date, ATMOSIScience holds a total of 44 patents worldwide and is compliant with both FDA and EMA regulations. Its products have been embraced by industry leaders such as Samsung, Panasonic, and the Shanghai Museum, among many others.

Wilson is an intuitive business leader; he was brought into a new environment and tasked with a challenge. Without skipping a beat, he dove right into learning about critical market dynamics, executed the company's go-to-market strategy, and started making connections in the industry. As a business development manager, Wilson seamlessly stepped into the partnership role and began adding value to the company. Without his belief in himself, his passion for learning, and the efforts of the entire team, ATMOSIScience wouldn't be where it is today.
