A reunion project for college comedy-drama “Greek” has been abandoned by Freeform.
TVLine learned exclusively that the network will no longer pursue the two-hour holiday movie, “Greek: The Reunion,” which could have chronicled the return of college students played by Jacob Zachar, Spencer Grammer, Scott Michael Foster, Jake McDorman, Amber Stevens, Paul James, Dilshad Vadsaria, and Clarke Duke to Cypress-Rhodes University for their five-year reunion. A rep for Freeform has confirmed the news, but declined to say why it decided to not continue with the project, which was first announced back in 2016.
Earlier, series creator Sean Smith released a statement regarding Freeform’s decision, saying, “I delivered a script to Freeform in February that they seemed to love enough to want to move forward. We reached out to the cast. Then Freeform told me they didn’t have the money to make it this year… maybe we can next year. Then I heard from TVLine that it’s officially not moving forward. So I’m obviously disappointed but grateful for the time I got to spend with those characters again. I’m sorry I can’t share that work with the fans.”
Executive producers Sean Piller and Lloyd Sagan, who are also attached to the scrapped project, have also said that they will be shopping the “Greek” movie around. As to the question on whether the film will have a chance to get picked up by streaming services, The Hollywood Reporter said availability and not money may have been a factor, as there is no word on which cast members had agreed to join the project either. Foster, Duke, Stevens West and James are currently series regulars on hit shows “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “I'm Dying Up Here,” “The Carmichael Show” and “The Path.”
