Polyphony Digital has apologized to “Gran Turismo 7” players for the recent string of gameplay issues and changes in microtransactions. The developer is also giving players 1 million in-game credits as compensation.
“I would like to apologize for the frustration and confusion caused last week with our patch updates which resulted in, not only a server outage but also adjustments to the in-game economy which were made without a clear explanation to our community,” Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi said in a blog post on Friday. The creator of the racing game series said players should receive the free in-game credits “shortly” after the announcement post.
Each PS4 and PS5 player who purchased “Gran Turismo 7” before Friday, March 25, at 1 a.m. PT (the publication date of the blog post) is eligible to get the free credits. But they have to log in to the game and claim it before Monday, April 25 at 1 a.m. PT.
“Gran Turismo 7” was review-bombed on Metacritic in recent days with most negative reviews criticizing the game’s microtransactions. Many fans have expressed disappointment after they observed a decrease in the rewards they get from completing races. Some have commented that the change may have been a way to push players to purchase credits that can then be used to buy cars in the game.
The game also became inaccessible for more than 24 hours following the release of patch 1.07, which has been mentioned in several negative reviews as well. Currently, the PS5 version of “Gran Turismo 7” has an overall user score of 1.7 on Metacritic after receiving 7,573 negative ratings.
Aside from recognizing the server outage, Polyphony Digital also admitted that the changes in the in-game economy were implemented “without a clear explanation.” Aside from the free credits, the developer confirmed that a significant update for “Gran Turismo 7” will be released in April that will increase rewards in Online Races, World Circuits events, and Circuit Experience for those who finish the races with Gold/All Bronze results. Players can also expect patches throughout April that will add new cars and course layouts.
