FxWirePro: USD/ZAR faces downside pressure with 38.2%fib support in focus

• USD/ZAR slipped lower on Tuesday as South African rand firmed supported by a ​decline in oil prices, while markets awaited ‌key U.S. labour market data for further clues on the Federal Reserve's policy path.

• Oil prices tumbled as much as 5% to a three-week low after comments from Qatar and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent fuelled hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East conflict..

• Market participants are now awaiting a series of key U.S. labour market reports this week, including the ADP employment report on Wednesday and the closely watched nonfarm payrolls data on Friday, for further clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook...

• With no major domestic economic data due, the South African rand is likely to take its cues from global developments, particularly U.S. economic data releases and geopolitical events, as is typical for emerging market currencies..

• Immediate resistance is located at 16.495 (50%fib), any close above will push the pair towards 16.665 (Jan 8th high).

• Strong support is seen at 16.199 (38.2%fib) and break below could take the pair towards 16.102(Lower BB).

Recommendation: Good to sell around 16.500 with stop loss of 16.800 and target price of 16.200
