Results are coming out from Sunday’s French Election and according to latest figures, there are no major upsets. As Predicted by polls, it is going to be the centrist independent candidate Emmanuel Macron vs. Front National leader Marine Le Pen in the round two, which will be held on May 7th.
According to latest numbers from counting booths,
- The leader of the ‘En Marche’ Emmanuel Macron has secured the first position with 23.5 percent votes. Front National leader Marine Le Pen has received 22.3 percent of the votes. The Republican candidate and not too distant third has received 19.9 percent of the votes and the leftist candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon has received 19 percent of the votes. The ruling socialist party candidate Benoit Hamon has received 6.2 percent of the votes.
- With the majority of the votes getting counted, the outcome is unlikely to change much for the second round.
- In the election, the turnout was higher than expected at 78.6 percent, higher than what most of the polls were predicting.
