French Election: Hollande calls on ministers to do everything possible to make sure Le Pen loses

French Presidential spokesman, Stephane Le Foll said at the council of ministers on Wednesday, “Hollande has asked ministers to fully commit themselves to the election campaign to ensure that Marine Le Pen has the lowest possible result”. The outgoing socialist President, who is considered by many as one of the worst Presidents in the history of France appears to be backing the independent candidate, founder of ‘En Marche’ movement Emmanuel Macron. However, Hollande is not the only big shot political figure backing Macron; almost all of the political parties in France and the leaders of the European Union as well as the French mainstream media are backing a Macron’s Presidency or rather working to make sure that Marine Le Pen doesn’t become the President.

Speaking on this, the Front National candidate Marine Le Pen, while speaking in an interview with France 2 TV channel said, “Macron goes into the second round on a carpet of rose petals with almost total support from the French mainstream media, elites, trade union organizations, entrepreneurs…… But it’s OK; I prefer to be supported by the French people.”

However, President François Hollande isn’t the only one making such a call. Earlier this week, the European Union’s commissioner for Economic and Financial affairs said that the EU must do everything to make sure that Marine Le Pen gets fewer votes as possible.

The European political class does not want Le Pen to receive 40 percent or above votes as it would show that huge numbers of people would prefer to move out of the European Union.
