France's Hollande and Germany's Merkel to meet ahead of EU summit

EU member countries meet for a summit that is scheduled for June 28 to 29. French President Francois Hollande will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday in Berlin ahead of an EU summit on Tuesday following Britain's referendum on its EU membership, France's European affairs minister said.

"We will together come up with a response for re-launching European construction, France will be up to the task," Europe minister Harlem Desir said.

Europe parliament Chief Martin Schultz was on the wires earlier today, following the Brexit outcome, warning that Britain has finally chosen its own path and that it is going to be a tough one. Martin Schulz said he would speak to the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, “on how we can avoid a chain reaction” of other EU states following Britain’s lead.

The European Union’s 27 remaining members will meet to assess its future next week without Britain. European council president says 27-member bloc is ‘determined to keep our unity’ after UK’s historic decision to abandon EU.
