Wendy's to test black bean-based burger

The sandwich features a square black bean patty with a blend of spices like crunchy chipotle jalapenos, paprika, chipotle pepper, melted pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, onion slices, romaine, and smoky chipotle sauce.

Wendy's will test a new Spicy Black Bean Burger, billed as a tastier alternative to other plant-based meats, on Monday, June 28, in Columbus, Jacksonville, and Pittsburgh.

The fast-food chain claimed that while other plant-based creations are bland, theirs is bursting with a medley of flavor in every bite.

The sandwich features a square black bean patty with a blend of spices like crunchy chipotle jalapenos, paprika, chipotle pepper, melted pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, onion slices, romaine, and smoky chipotle sauce.

A Wendy's spokesperson described the sandwich as designed for flexitarians seeking a meatless option with a unique combination of spice, crunch, and texture.

The spokesperson added that its culinary team created the sandwich to provide multiple heat levels, from the patty to the chipotle jalapeños to the cheese, to provide a sensorial experience.

Available for a limited time only, the Spicy Black Bean Burger will cost $5.79.

Customers who order through Wendy's app get a free medium fry and delivery until July 1.
