RENO, Nev., Jan. 25, 2018 -- Filament, provider of blockchain solutions for Internet of Things (IoT) and the enterprise, has joined Hyperledger, an open-source, global collaboration effort created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies hosted by The Linux Foundation.
“Filament’s innovative technology is bringing about a new reality where industrial and commercial devices become economic in nature,” said Brian Behlendorf, executive director, Hyperledger. “With Filament’s collaborative project work already underway with the consortium, we look forward to the results that will benefit the greater Hyperledger community and industry as a whole.”
As a member of the consortium, Filament is currently supporting the open-source business blockchain framework, Hyperledger Sawtooth, on its recently announced blockchain-native hardware, the Blocklet Chip™. The Hyperledger Sawtooth project is a modular platform designed for building, deploying and running versatile and scalable distributed ledgers that provide a digital record, maintained without central authority or implementation. It is ideal for environments requiring detailed traceability of the physical world. Filament’s support of the framework enables the secure and tamper-proof digital recording of data in a blockchain.
“Filament is focused on elevating industrial IoT and enterprise connectivity to include trusted verification, interaction and full transaction capability,” said Allison Clift-Jennings, CEO, Filament. “Joining the Hyperledger consortium allows us to collaborate with a powerful community to move next-generation blockchain and IoT-centric solutions forward and set new standards.”
Hyperledger was established by The Linux Foundation in December 2015 to create an enterprise-grade, open-source distributed ledger framework for users to build and run robust, industry-specific applications, platforms and hardware systems to support business transactions. Hyperledger’s members span approximately 200 organizations in information technology, manufacturing, finance and more, including many Fortune 500 corporations such as IBM, Cisco, Intel, Oracle and Samsung.
Filament’s trusted software application and Blocklet Chip hardware enable devices to securely communicate with and transact against multiple blockchain technologies natively. Leveraging open protocols enables devices to independently process and record transactions, ensuring digital trust. The Blocklet Chip will allow industrial corporations and enterprises to seamlessly extract the value of recording and monetizing data assets, at the edge of the network, on IoT sensors.
